WALLACE WANTS TO "CONTINUE FROM WHERE WE LEFT OFF"

-With Phoenix Car & Knowledge Gained In Desert Race Weekend, Miller LiteTeam Penske Is Ready For Homestead Battle-

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Nov. 6)

-- Miller Lite Team Penske driver Rusty Wallace and his Robin Pemberton-led Penske South team head into this weekend's Pennzoil 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway looking to continue from where they left off.

They're not looking at continuing anything the past holds for the team on this 1.5-mile track, but rather hoping to proceed from where they left off two weeks ago at the Phoenix International Raceway.

"We learned a whole bunch out in Phoenix.quite a bit of chassis stuff that we plan on using at Homestead," Wallace said. "We're bringing the same car that performed so well out there before we had tire problems. We hope to continue at Homestead from where we left off out there in Phoenix."

Wallace started fourth at Phoenix, took the lead on lap 65 and led four times for 91 laps before falling victim to a flat right front tire while leading on lap 185. He lost laps and fell back to 34th in the order at the time, but fought back to finish on the lead lap and in the 15th spot.

The two tracks may vary in size and banking, but Wallace contends they call for similar setups as far as the races go.

"The neat thing is that we can pretty much take the same great race setup we had in the thing at Phoenix and tweak a little here and there for Homestead," said Wallace. "The biggest difference is that you carry more speed into the corners at Homestead because of the length (1.5-miles at Homestead versus 1.0-miles at Phoenix), but the bottom line is that we know we can use what worked at Phoenix and apply that to
Homestead. We'll be the best we've ever been at Homestead this time around, I'll guarantee you that."

Homestead-Miami Speedway is banked six degrees in the turns and three degrees on the straightaways. Phoenix International Raceway is banked 11 degrees in turns one and two, nine degrees in turns three and four and has no banking on the straightaways.

In the two prior Homestead races, Wallace started 14th and finished 12th in 1999 and started 17th and finished 15th last year.

"We've worked really hard on getting a good grip on the Homestead track," said Wallace. "I think we're ready to grab that place by the horns this time around.

"It's still going to play out as a continuous battle for track
position.just like the last two races have been there," concluded
Wallace. "The track has a reputation for having very little grip and hasn't produced much side-by-side racing to date. That'll probably be the case again and just magnifies the importance of track position. We just have to keep having great pit stops all day and if it comes down to pit strategy, making the right call at the end is gonna' be the key deal."

Wallace enters this weekend's race sixth in the NASCAR Winston Cup points. With 4,118 points, he is 231 points out of third, 178 points out of fourth and 113 points out of fifth.

"We can still move a spot or two up the standings with good runs in theses final three races," Wallace said.

This weekend's schedule calls for practice on Friday from 11:20 a.m. until 1:20 p.m. A single round of qualifying at 3:05 p.m. will
determine all 43 starting positions for Sunday's race. Saturday's
activity features practice sessions from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. and from 11:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Sunday's Pennzoil 400 has a 12:30 p.m. EST starting time and features live coverage by NBC-TV and MRN Radio.
