RUSTY PLEASED WITH DAYTONA TESTING

The pre-season testing in advance of Daytona Speed Weeks 2004 ended with Miller Lite Dodge driver Rusty Wallace posting the 13th fastest lap overall, according to official sources. Wallace was pleased with how his testing went and was delighted about his initial opportunity to work with new crew chief Larry Carter.

“We had a great test and we’re really pumped up about our chances going into Daytona this time around,” said Wallace, who turned in his fast lap of 187.056 mph (48.114 seconds) during the afternoon session on the final day of testing (Jan. 15).

“Larry Carter has just jumped right in there and is doing a super job. We get along like we’ve been working together for quite a long time. There’s a lot of mutual respect there and I’m confident that he will be a super leader for our team.

“As far as making predictions, don’t look for me to be doing that this time around going into Daytona,” Wallace added. “It seems like every time we’ve gone out on the limb and done that, it comes back to bite us big time.

So, we’ll just say that we know we have two great handling race cars ready for Daytona and are confident that we can go down there and be competitive in the Shootout, qualifying, the 125s and the Daytona 500.”
