-- A.T. Cross announced today
a strategic partnership with NASCAR Champion, Rusty Wallace. The program,
to be launched at the race at Daytona, marks the first such alliance for
A.T. Cross and the NASCAR community. To celebrate this exciting affiliation,
Cross will create two Special Edition Rusty Wallace Signature pens, the
Rusty Wallace ION pen and the
Rusty Wallace Morph pen. Each pen will offer a simple yet clearly identifiable
way for Wallace fans to add to their collections of memorabilia. Rusty
will also wear the Cross logo on his racing uniform.
The ION a futuristic, sleek palm-sized pen, will feature Rusty's signature
on the side and will come with a custom lanyard featuring his number 2.
The compact Ion can be opened for writing with its one hand open/close
feature. Its soft-touch, ergonomic grip adds cushioned comfort to the
ION experience, and the gel ink glides smoothly and colorfully across
paper.
The Morph pen will feature Rusty's number 2 on the clip and his
signature on the side. The Morph features an innovative "morphing"
technology. Simply turn the dial at the top of the pen and the refill
extends and the adjustable cushioned, silicon finger grip section morphs
into a comfortable triangle grip for ultimate comfort.
The partnership between Rusty and A.T. Cross was born out of Rusty's personal
experience. Painful writer's cramp from signing thousands of letters and
autographs each week left him unable to use his writing hand for hours.
He was given a Cross Morph by a friend and after trying it, with its ergonomic
grip, the cramp was virtually eliminated. Rusty Wallace became an immediate
fan of A.T. Cross' line of pens and contacted the company to explore possibilities.
"Partnering with Rusty Wallace, the Champion, is a natural step for
Cross," said Peter Leon, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Americas.
"Rusty is leaving his mark on the sport. He epitomizes perseverance
and longevity while continuing to compete, and win, against the newcomers.
Throughout our 150 year history, Cross can be described in just the same
way. We continue to innovate and strive to be the best. Our new line of
products, such as the ION, demonstrates that we, too, continue to lead
the way."
Wallace, the 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup champion, has 54 career wins entering
the 2002 season. He has won races for 16 years in a row and will be making
his 554th consecutive start in the Feb. 17 Daytona 500.
"We're really pleased and excited to have Cross join us," said
Wallace. "Through the years, I've really been a big fan of their
products. They've been around for more than 150 years and their name rings
of quality, durability and first class performance. Those are the attributes
that we always strive for on and off the track, so our new association
with A.T. Cross is a natural partnership. I'm looking forward to being
an active player in their marketing efforts."
Some programs to be announced at Daytona will include contests, sweepstakes
and special events.
