MOORESVILLE, N.C. (February 11, 2002) ? Rusty Wallace, Inc. announced that Planters, part of the Kraft Foods Snacks Division, has become an marketing partner for the 2002-racing season. The marketing partnership aligns Planters with NASCAR Winston Cup star Rusty Wallace in his bid for the 2002 series championship. The arrangement between Planters and Wallace calls for Mr. Peanut,, the Planters icon, to be featured on Wallace's driving uniform. Wallace in turn, will be prominently featured in Planters racing-related marketing efforts during the 2002 season. "It's a great fit teaming Mr. Peanut, an American icon, with one of the most respected drivers on the NASCAR circuit," stated Jonathan Drake, Category Business Director, Planters Nuts. "Planters and Mr. Peanut are looking forward to a winning season on the track with Rusty." "We're extremely excited to have Planters aboard for the 2002 season," said Wallace, the 1989 Winston Cup champion and winner of 54 races entering the 2002 schedule. "The Planters brand has been a fixture in Winston Cup racing for many years now and to have them join in our efforts is indeed an honor." Wallace's assessment of Planters' association with NASCAR holds true. From 1999 through 2001, Planters was the "Official Snack of NASCAR" and for 2002 is the "Preferred Snack Nut of NASCAR." Although Mr. Peanut may not have been around the track as many times as Wallace, he is undoubtedly one of America's most recognized icons. This creation by a 14-year old boy who entered the winning sketch of an animated peanut in a Planters-sponsored trademark contest, even has his own star on Hollywood's Melrose Avenue Character Walk. In more than 140 countries, Kraft Foods markets leading food and beverage brands including Kraft cheese, Maxwell House and Jacobs coffees, Nabisco cookies and crackers, Philadelphia cream cheese, Oscar Mayer meats, Post cereals and Milka chocolates. "We are proud to be representing quality products and a recognized name like Planters," said Tom Knox, Director of Marketing, RWI. "We will do our best to make sure Planters wins both on and off the racetrack. We thank the people of Kraft Foods for their support. We look forward to working with a great company in Keystone Marketing on creative platforms for the 2002 season." The 36-race NASCAR Winston
Cup schedule for 2002 begins on Feb. 17 with the Daytona 500 at Daytona
International Speedway. |
