FONTANA, CA (February 20, 2010)—Following his top-ten effort in last weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series season opener at Daytona, Rusty Wallace Racing’s Steve Wallace (No. 66 Toyota Camry) has continued his momentum this weekend in California as well.
Wallace set the fourth-fastest time in Friday afternoon’s final practice for Saturday’s Stater Brothers 300 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. Wallace’s best lap of 41.222 seconds (174.664 MPH) came on the 21st of his 22 laps in the session.
Additionally, Wallace was one of only five drivers to rank among the top-ten in both of the day’s practice sessions. His best lap of 40.878 seconds (176.134 MPH) in the morning session placed him tenth-fastest of the 44 cars taking time in the session.
Noted Wallace, “We have a really strong Toyota Camry here this weekend. Our car is really turning well, even on older tires. This is a track that I’ve really gotten to enjoy driving over the last few years and we seem to run pretty well here. Hopefully, we’ll be able to have our Toyota up front when it counts tomorrow afternoon.”
Saturday’s Stater Brothers 300 is set for a 2:30 PM pacific start from Auto Club Speedway. The race is set to include live television coverage by ESPN2, beginning at 2:00 PM pacific (5:00 PM eastern). Saturday’s race day forecast currently calls for sporadic periods of rain throughout the day.
