BRENDAN GAUGHAN PACES FINAL PRACTICE IN DAYTONA
--RWR Teammates Look to be Contenders in Saturday’s Nationwide Series Event--

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (February 12, 2009)—In his first Nationwide Series effort for Rusty Wallace Racing, Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Hotel and Casino Chevrolet) posted the fastest lap in today’s final practice session for Saturday’s Camping World 300 at Daytona International Speedway. 

Gaughan’s lap of 48.878 seconds (184.132 MPH) was the overall fastest lap of the week’s practice sessions and occurred on the ninth of his 24 laps in the final session.

Said Gaughan, “I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to drive this No. 62 Chevrolet.  My guys have done a great job this week and I can’t wait for the race to start on Saturday.  We have a really good handling car; I don’t know if we’ll qualify great, but I think that we’ll be in really good shape in the race.”

Meanwhile, Gaughan’s teammate, Steve Wallace (No. 66 USfidelis Chevrolet) ranked 19th of the 44 cars taking time in the final session, with a best lap of 49.294 seconds (182.578 MPH).  However, the 21 year-old wheelman is confident that his practice time is not indicative of the No. 66 team’s performance.

Noted Wallace, “Our No. 66 car is incredibly fast here at Daytona this week; I really think that we have a car that’s capable of winning the race on Saturday.  Of course, on the restrictor plate tracks, a lot just comes down to luck, but our car will draft with anything out there and it can lead the draft too.  I don’t expect to have a great qualifying run, but come race day, I think we have the potential to be right there at the end.”
